Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as general reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. She was a member of an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including arms control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
